What is corporate signage?
Corporate signage is the set of signs, indications and visual elements that guide, inform and communicate the identity of a company within a physical space. It goes far beyond simple signposts: it is an extension of the brand that reinforces the corporate image and improves the user experience.
Good signage fulfills three fundamental functions:
1. Orientation (wayfinding): Guides visitors within a space, indicating directions, locations and routes.
2. Information: Provides useful information such as schedules, rules, available services and points of interest.
3. Branding: Reinforces the visual identity of the company through colors, fonts, materials and finishes consistent with the brand.
Types of corporate signage
There are multiple types of signage depending on their function and location:
Exterior signage:
- Facade signs (luminous, corporeal, backlit)
- Entrance totems
- Building Directories
- Parking signs
Interior signage:
- Plant directories
- Office and meeting room signs
- Emergency and evacuation signaling
- Decorative vinyl with branding
- Informative digital screens
Safety signage:
- Evacuation signs (photoluminescent)
- Prohibition, obligation and danger signs
- Evacuation plans
- Signage of fire extinguishers and emergency equipment
Materials for professional signage
The choice of material defines the quality, durability and aesthetics of the signage:
Methacrylate: Elegant, transparent, ideal for premium signage. It can be backlit. Glossy, matte and satin finishes.
Aluminum: Durable, resistant, ideal for outdoors. Anodized, lacquered and brushed finishes.
PVC / Forex: Economical and light. Good option for temporary or low-cost interior signage.
Dibond: Aluminum composite, very flat and resistant. Ideal for company plates and prestigious signage.
Wood: Provides warmth and naturalness. Ideal for hotels, restaurants and spaces with organic design.
Vinyl: Versatile and economical. For adhesive signage on glass, walls and floors.
Signage regulations in Spain
Signage must comply with several regulations:
CTE (Technical Building Code): Regulates evacuation and emergency signaling in buildings. It is mandatory in all buildings for public use.
UNE 170002 Standard: Establishes the accessibility requirements for signage. Includes signage in braille, high contrast and universal pictograms.
RITE: Signage regulations for thermal installations.
Municipal regulations: Each town council has its own ordinance on facade signs, dimensions, lighting and permitted materials.
At Unical Graphic we design and install signage that complies with all current regulations, including accessibility and safety.
